Symmetry or Complementary?

Symmetry. That’s what people usually call perfect; even beautiful. The circle of lights shimmering in a lake, the rhyme of lyrics, or the two halves of an apple– all of these are symmetrical, and appear to be complete. They have always been admired for the feeling of fullness they project, and are even said to be lacking in refinement when they are treated as individual objects rather than an encapsuled element. Symmetry is a phenomenon which one can find all around oneself. The earth itself is so, its geoid shape taken into consideration. The random book on a table, the lined up planting of the garden beds, the staircase upto a classroom, even the arranged seats in a bus. People definitely prefer symmetry to disorganised systems, and thus, the perpetual examples of the former spread throughout the whole place.

I do not exactly disagree with this opinion; symmetry is very important for the feeling of comprehensiveness. But I do beg to differ that it is not symmetry that makes the world as beautiful as it is. Unknowingly, or better put, sub-consciously, people intend to choose the elements as such that they complement each other. Of course, most would not agree of even thinking about something like this, but hey, ever wondered why the gleaming lights look so pretty on the dark surface of the lake? Why are lyrics usually written with a dividing line in between two rhymed ones? Why the apples look as much delicious as they are redder on the outside and whiter on the inside? Black with white, red with green, violet with gold, orange with blue, lime with teal– the colors say it all. As contrasting they might be from each other, they look just equally wonderful together. And this theory does not limit to colors or lines, it extends to ideas and innovations as well. For example, I was telling my cousin about my view on life and death just the other day, that life would be meaningless if there is no death. Though contradictory to each other, their existences are not self-exclusive. That’s what makes living life so cool, rather that’s what leads to the coinage of the phrase – ‘ living life ‘. It cannot be appreciated if there is no knowledge of an end to it. This is what I call beautiful. Beautiful in its very being, and not its solitude.

There is, of course, the reasoning that this theory will fail if there might be no symmetry. This might be true to quite an extent, as the basis for completeness will always be symmetry, rather than a complementary explanation. But this should not lead to the conclusion that the latter factor could be conveniently ignored, as that would surely result in an outcome a shade worse than it could have been. This is about all I wish to express about the under-estimated powers of complementing things. Co-existence and co-evolution, or even symbiosis, is the way we all survive. If we can identify it, to some extent, in our biological environment, why not apply the same concept to life? It might not be that difficult, considering the fundamentals have already been ingrained within us. We just have to broaden our visions, believe in them, and start implementing our ideas in our daily lives. Maybe one day, we might be able to understand each other, and the world around us. Maybe one day, the world again would be as beautiful as we have always envisioned it.

*****

This is something I’d written almost an year ago. I was just browsing about and found this posted on aarin. Gave it a read and… it just swept me away. Sometimes, I really love my thoughts, lol. Anyway, decided to post it here as most of my non-fictional stuff is up here. ^^

As for the private post mentioned in the previous article – gonna work on it right now. There’ll be a RL post coming up tomorrow as there’s been so much happening and I simply hadn’t gotten the time to blog anything. So yeah, later~

Just an information update

My PC ( that’s Zoriah, or Zoe for short; yeah, my PC’s got a name ) is almost on the verge of a breakdown at the moment. There’s hardly anything opening up – FireFox being one of the few applications that do. Also, a format had been pending for quite a while so I decided to go along with it as I’ve tomorrow off as well. The only problem right now is that my ‘Sources’ DVDs are with a friend and I won’t be able to retrieve them before Tuesday. Now this sucks as almost every single source I have is on those. I found a few in my D drive but they are pretty much the add-ons. So I won’t be able to get back on the internet before a couple of days. Then again, the modem source keeps acting up all the time so hopefully, it won’t give much trouble. But I’ll have to install a lot of things, and that’s seriously going to be too much work. -_-

On another note, we had our freshers’ party yesterday afternoon. A weird time to go to a disc, I know, but supposedly, it was so so that the girls wouldn’t have a problem showing up for it. Anyway, we enjoyed a hell lot; my friend and I danced the damn whole time, lol. We both even got nominated for the Ms. Fresher title with two other girls. I bagged it in the end, hee. People were muttering qite a bit about the standard of the questions asked, but personally speaking, I was quite alright answering them. Actually, if it had been me doing the questioning, it would have been a lot worse. xD Well, the juniors will be coming in in about six months. ;) So yeah, if you ask me what I enjoyed the most, it has got to be the jamming session. That was just awesome even though I sprained my right ankle a bit. There was some water ( or a mocktail, I think ) on the dance floor, and I slipped a little due to my heels. The worst thing was – I forgot to take snaps. I mean, I did take a few, mind you, a very few. But I didn’t take any of mine. u_u It struck me when my sis-in-law asked me for pics later last night and I gave her a completely blank look, heh.

Anyway, guess I’ll have to get going now. Got quite a bit to do and I don’t want to keep installing stuff in Zoe all the night. Though I’ll be awake till late today but that time can be utilised for more entertaining activities, yeah? ;D

Later then!~

Living some fun days

It’s been some time I’ve had this fun living my college life. Life’s been a rollercoaster ride but I’m riding it good, lol. There have been so many happenings and events and talks ( and the list goes on… ) that I haven’t really been free for more than an hour at a time. The sucking part is – I haven’t been able to read LOTR for quite a while. xD Otherwise, I participated in a robotics workshop recently, and saw a lot of mechanisms and designs in the LD Samannvay techfest going on. Had a lot of fun yesterday and today; will be going there tomorrow as well. Most of the finals are gonna be held tomorrow so that should be even more interesting to watch.

We celebrated ‘Days’ at our college recently, from 11th to 18th February. They were the usual ones, nothing much innovative, but it was still enjoyable considering it’s my ( and my friends ) first such celebration. ^.^ Wore a sari on the traditional day, hee. And I love that sari to bits! It’s just damn gorgeous. Well anyway, pics will follow later once I get them from my friend. The ones I’ve are of my friends – none of me. :P Though I loved the executive day the most. People actually looked so damn cool that day! It was totally worth going to college that day, heh.

Thirdly, I’ve been busy with life these days. Lol, sounds too funny when I write it that way but that’s really the case. And I’ve a bad feeling that too many people know me at my college now. >.> Not that I’ve got a problem with that; it’s just that wherever I go in the college, someone or the other comes up to chat. As if I’m just too damn free for every other thing in the world. Still, I’m making a lot of acquaintances, so it’s cool.

Lastly, I’ve got my freshers’ party this Saturday. Finally. Well, not that we’re much of ‘freshers’ anymore but at least we’re getting a party! The location’s quite a good one so I’m hoping for a damn cool party. Hope it turns out that way! There have been some problems in our class regarding that; there’re some very fews guys who’re gonna turn up but our seniors look pretty okay to me so it should turn out well in the end. Either way, I’m gonna enjoy it to bits. :D

So this is it for now – got to call up a friend. There’ll be a private post following this sometime later in the night, or tomorrow maybe. There are just some things which I need to write out to clear my mind. And to get my focus back, heh.

Oyasumi~

Sickness

Feeling so sick today! Caught a viral infection going around about four days back. Well, I didn’t think it was worth giving a thought before but it suddenly got pretty bad on Sunday night. Had two horrible days as the cough and cold kept increasing. Yesterday was still tolerable, and I played a hell lot of badminton at college so it was quite cool, but by night, I had caught a fever. Come today morning, and I was coughing and sniffing like dog. Finally, had to bunk college for the whole day. Took some antibiotics and painkillers and went to sleep. It’s really quite terrible with your appetite gone, head feeling like it’ll split any moment, every breath hurting your insides, body aching like crazy with every single movement, and worst of all, throat being completely sore. I’m not even speaking much anymore so that I don’t have to hear my croaking voice. Seriously, it sucks so much when I can’t speak or sing or use my voice in any way! ( Yeah, I pretty much love my voice now – used to admire Mom’s voice before but hers beginning to worsen now, with mine getting better. ) The worst part of the story is – I still don’t feel any well than I was in the morning. And the ‘Days’ start at our college from tomorrow. So there’s no way I’m missing them but I’m not overly enthusiastic with celebrating them in such a condition. So I’m fervently trying to get as much better as I can with an optimistic spirit. -_- Hopefully, I’d be better on the 13th – got a robotics workshop then.

On another note, I haven’t written out any poem or story for quite a while now. Feels as if my mind’s got kind of rusted. I really need to put some effort here. I’ve been reading ‘ Lord of the Rings’ these past days, and making sure I read every single verse in there. I had skipped most of them when I had read the books the first time, but I’m paying special attention to go through all of them and analyse them in every single context I can think of. Of course this means that it takes me much longer to complete a part than it normally does, but that’s okay as I’m really doing this more for literary gain than pure entertainment. Formerly, I’d been reading Garth Nix’ earlier works – ‘Sabriel’ and sequels. They are okay-ish; the plots are nicely developed but not much deep, and quite often, very predictable. The detailing is pretty good if you ask me, and the fantasy is worth a read. Obviously as it is now, it can’t compare to the worlds created by JK Rowling or JRR Tolkien, but if dedicated some more time and thought, it can be a very enthralling fantasy of its own. For example, I definitely admire the series ‘Keys to the Kingdom’ by the same author. It’s much more mature and practically involves an alternate reality. Haven’t been reading much for some months now so won’t write anymore on this topic. Though there are some recommended authors on my read-list for the moment, I don’t think I’d take up any book other than LOTR and related ones for a few more weeks.

Okay, guess I’ll stop for now. My body’s starting to ache again and I can feel a headache coming. Better rest for a while than spoil another day lounging around on bed. Later then.

1st Sem Results

Yay, I passed in Maths! -does a hoola dance- ( no, I don’t know how to do it, lol ) But really, I was quite happy to hear that I won’t have to take a rem for Maths for the first semester. The exam had been more than crap, and I wasn’t really expecting any good marks. I got the marksheet today as well, and realised that I’d just passed in it. Not that I’ve any complains. Didn’t get a good grade in EG either, but that was expected as well as my shoulder and leg hurt quite a bit for me to concentrate properly. Couldn’t complete the paper – guess that’s the reason. Had a fever during Physics but still scored okay-ish ( even though I really did know almost all of the paper ). Scored good in Computers, Civil and Comm. Skills, which was again, very much expected. Although I still think I should have got quite a few more in all three; still, it’s okay as long as I can move on. Had a 6.81 SPI and CPI which, admittedly, isn’t classy but doesn’t really suck much either. Just have to improve the CPI to 7.0 to 7.5 in this sem, or the next one. Now I’m not inclined to score more than that simply because nobody gives a damn about it anyway. And there are a lot of other things which I need to be doing rather than studying my ass off to obtain a higher CPI. So overall, I’m almost satisfied with my result. Almost. ^.^ Just need to improve a few areas, especially Maths, in this semester.

On a different note, I started off with practicing sketching  noses and mouths of anime characters. Gonna do that tonight again. And it’s so much fun! Mom and I had a detailed discussion over the structure and posture of the nose and mouth of a guy ( Yuki ) in an anime ( Ayakashi Ayashi ) I was watching yesterday. She pointed out quite a few things, some of which don’t apply much when you’re talking about anime, and some of which do. As the animation industry is evolving, there’s been a huge change in how animation is done these days. The drawing part, of course, depends a lot of the artist of the actual manga/story but the differences between then and now are still pretty much discernable. From what I’ve gathered, the characters are drawn with pretty sharp and distinguishing features nowadays. It was either quite a bit more realistic or completely fantasized before. It’s a nice mix of both now, and it works well. I’m gonna go through my pictures’ collection and check out the differences myself. Just gonna go for my favourite artists and the popular ones ( old and new ) when I do it. Hopefully, I’ll be able to gain some more knowledge about anime and manga sketching from the exercise.

Lastly, as I have to hurry now, I’ve still got the cleaning of the scanlations Hoka sent me pending. Which sucks because I said I would do them on time. Now technically, she didn’t really state a deadline but it isn’t really like me not to keep my word. Well, it is 3/4th done – just about two hours work left, so I guess I’ll try complete it tomorrow. Maybe bunk the last two lectures and come home early, if possible. Or stay up at night and finish it off. Either way, I’m thinking of not letting it drag on to the day after tomorrow.

Alright then, this is it for now. Gotta scurry now~ later!
